What measures do you have to protect customers from Covid-19?
All suppliers have measures in place to keep store rooms, warehouses and staff sanitized and healthy. The delivery driver also complies with supplier Covid-19 measures to ensure no contact and no spreading of the virus.
The driver of the delivery vehicle will have sanitizer with him, cleaning his/her hands before and after each delivery, while also keeping a mask on during such deliveries. All deliveries will be contactless deliveries to keep both driver and customer safe, meaning that he/she will keep a distance, drop box/products off in front of door/gate and no papers will be signed.
What security has been implemented on this website to keep my information safe?
The website is hosted with Domains.co.za with an SSL Certificate. Domains.co.za is a leading hosted provider in South Africa, putting a lot of emphasis on IT Security.
The SSL certificate ensures there is encryption of data between your browser and the website. You will also see the “https://” with the “s” showing that the SSL certificate is active on the site. See a video here to explain more about SSL Security Certificates.
A website firewall and malware protection has been implemented on the website itself. This ensures the website is not hacked or malware is not left on the website to steal information.
Payments are done through an approved 3rd party, namely DPO Paygate, whom handle payments for many online stores in South Africa. All credit card payments are confirmed with a one-time pin that is sent to your mobile phone. Without this confirmation pin, the purchase cannot go through.
Electronic Funds Transfers are also available, in order for you to manage your payment similar to other online payments you do.
Why can’t I create an account on your website?
We want to keep as little information of you as possible on our systems, which means we only keep information relevant for the orders you place. While we keep information relevant to orders placed, we will comply to any request to delete such information. Making purchases without an account also speeds up the purchasing process, making it easier and safer to buy products from Bay Shop.
What is the delivery fee and what does it include?
For each order placed, there will be a R25 delivery fee within Port Elizabeth and R50 for Uitenhage and Despatch areas, whether you purchase 1 item or 100 items. For orders above R400 in Port Elizabeth and R600 for Uitenhage and Despatch, deliveries are for free.
How do I get my purchased products if I don’t live within the prescribed delivery area?
You may arrange to either pick up your products from a pickup area or have the products picked up by a courier company to have it delivered to you. You are welcome to request us for assistance in the matter, but any delivery or courier cost will be for your own account. If you have made a purchase and decide to cancel the order and request a refund, R50 will be deducted from the refund due to fees we need to pay the 3rd party payment company and bank for such refunds.
What happens if my product(s) arrive damaged or unfit for consumption?
You are within your right to decline damaged products at the time of delivery. If you are not able to or don’t see the damage immediately, please contact us as within 3 working days and we will arrange for replacement of the product(s). Please keep the damaged product(s) to be retrieved when your replacement is delivered.
When can I expect delivery after order has been made and paid for?
We will always strive to deliver the next business day. However, if we are not able to due to unforeseen circumstance, we will deliver your order within 5 working days. During the checkout process there is also a comment section that can be used to provide delivery instructions, in case you need your order delivered at a certain time and/or date.
Orders placed and paid before 9am is normally delivered the same day, but with bakery products there is a cut off time of 14:00 for delivery the next day. If you order at 16:00 on the Tuesday and the order includes a product from our bakery, like a ciabatta, the order will only be delivered on the Thursday.
How do you support small business?
We currently have 6 suppliers, which are all small businesses within Nelson Mandela Bay, that we order our products from to deliver as one delivery at your door. The small businesses allow for low pricing on Bay Shop, without prices being too low for it to be worth it for the small businesses.
Bay Shop ensures that products from small businesses are more accessible to the entire Nelson Mandela Bay, with the convenience for our customers to get only one delivery.
Customers can therefore go back to the times where they ordered quality butchery meats from the butcher, farm fresh fruit and vegetables from the fruit and vegetable shop, freshly baked breads from the bakery, great tasting cold meats direct from the factory shop and pet food from a pet shop. Prices still remain low and the customers do not have to drive all over town to get their products.
